In the distant future, the universe is ruled by a single emperor and whoever controls the supply of “spice” – a substance that extends life and allows space travel – can have dominion over the universe. The House Atreides is the emperor’s only true threat; Duke Atreides’s son Paul has the “sight” and is subject to prophetic visions. Because of this, Paul foretells the emperor’s elaborate plot to destroy the House Atreides, and the two families engage in a fight to the death over the spice.

*The film had one Oscar nomination for Best Sound
