A naive hustler, Joe Buck, quits his job as a dishwasher and travels from his small Texas hometown to New York City hoping to score big with wealthy New York City women. Soon he finds a companion in Enrico Salvatore "Ratso" Rizzo, an ailing swindler with a bum leg and a quixotic fantasy of escaping to Florida.
The film won three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay. It remains the only X-rated film to win the Oscar for Best Picture.
