The rise and fall of the adult life of Redmond Barry. Α young, roguish Irishman who’s traveling the battlefields and parlors of eighteenth century Europe determined to make for himself the life of a nobleman through seduction, gambling, and duelling until he wins the heart of a rich widow and assumes her dead husband’s aristocratic position.

Many of the shots were composed and filmed in order to evoke certain eighteenth-century paintings, especially those by Thomas Gainsborough.
