In the late nineteenth century Tullio Hermil, a wealthy Roman aristocrat married to Giuliana, lives his sexual life with a possessive
aristocratic mistress, Teresa. However, his interest in his wife is rekindled when he sees Guliana’s happiness after she has begun a love affair with a novelist. When she becomes pregnant by him, things get complicated. Luchino Visconti’s swan song is a haunting account of aristocratic chauvinism and sexual double standards.

A retired American professor lives a solitary life in a luxurious palazzo in Rome. Ηis quiet routine is turned into chaos when he rents an apartment on an upper floor of his home to a vulgar Italian marchesa, her lover, her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend. The professor is fascinated and at the same time disturbed by the tenants promiscuous behavior, until everybody’s life takes an unexpected but inevitable turn.

Composer Gustav von Aschenbach, travels to Venice for health reasons. There, he becomes increasingly obsessed, with the stunning beauty of an adolescent Polish boy named Tadzio who is staying with his family at the same hotel as Aschenbach. Though he never speaks to the boy, much less touches him, the composer finds himself drawn deep into ruinous inward passion; meanwhile, Venice succumbs to a cholera plague and the hotel guests begin to realize that something is seriously wrong.

Venezia, spring of 1866, in the last days of the Austrian occupation. A performance of Il Trovatore ends up in confusion due to an antiAustrian demonstration, organised by Count Ussoni. His cousin Countess Serpieri, a troubled and neurotic married woman falls in love with vile Austrian Lieutenant Franz Mahler, and engages herself in a self-destructive love affair, in which she forgets her principles and decency, while betraying her country with tragic consequences.

The Prince of Salina, Don Fabrizio Corbera, a noble aristocrat of impeccable integrity, tries to preserve his family and class amid the
tumultuous social upheavals of 1860’s Sicily. The corresponding rise to eminence of the enormously wealthy ex-peasant Don Calogero Sedara is a sign of the upcoming change. The prince himself refuses to take active steps to halt the decline of his personal fortunes or to help build a new Sicily but his nephew Tancredi, Prince of Falconeri swims with the tide and assures his own position by marrying Don Calogero’s beautiful daughter Angelica.
The film, based on the novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, was awarded with the Golden Palm at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival.

The widow Rosaria moves from Milan to Lukania, along with her four sons, one of whom is Rocco. The fifth son, Vincenzo, already lives in Milan. In the beginning, the family has a lot of problems, but they all manage to find something to do: Simone becomes a boxer, Rocco works in a dry cleaner and dreams of becoming a boxer, Ciro is studying and Luca is too young to work. Simone meets
and falls in love with Nadia, a prostitute, and they have a stormy relationship. After completing his military service, Rocco will also start a relationship with her. The conflict between the two brothers will have devastating effects.
The film was awarded at the Venice International Film Festival with the Special Prize and the FIPRESCI Award.

In a small fishing village on the east coast of Sicily, the fishermen have been exploited for generations by the greedy wholesalers. Young Ntoni Valastro convinces his family to mortgage their house in order to buy a fishing boat of their own and never work again
for the wholesalers. One stormy day, he decides to fish due to the necessity of repaying the debt to the bank. Divided into five sections: a prologue, three main phases and an epilogue, the film is a docufiction which features non-professional actors.

many to be the first Italian neorealist film, though there is some debate about whether such a categorization is accurate.
