A wandering tramp has an affair with Giovanna, the beautiful young wife of the naive old man who owns α small roadside inn. Giovanna’s husband disgusts her; every time he touches her she wants to scream. Gino leaves, only to return because he can’t get
her out of his blood. They kill her husband, but his death haunts the guilt-ridden Gino. Visconti’s first feature film, is considered by
many to be the first Italian neorealist film, though there is some debate about whether such a categorization is accurate.
