The film revolves around the feud that bursts between clans of the Di Lauro Camorra syndicate. The feud is triggered by the murder
of gangsters relaxing in a tanning salon and erupts between members of the Di Lauro syndicate and the separatists, who are led by Rafaele Amato, brother of two of the men killed in the salon. The film interwines five separate stories of people whose lives are
touched by organized crime.

The film won four awards of the European Film Academy (among them best European film 2008), plus the Grand Jury Award of the Cannes Film Festival. It was also nominated for a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award in the Foreign Language Film Category.
