Immanuel Rath is a strict and conservative professor with a well ordered life. When he discovers that some of his students have been spending much of their time at a sleazy cabaret called The Blue Angel he decides to pay a visit to the establishment. There he falls in love with the cabaret singer Lola and his life soon spins dangerously out of control with devastating consequences.

The film is the first feature-length German full-talkie and brought Marlene Dietrich international fame. Based on Heinrich Mann’s 1905 novel ‘’Professor Unrat’’.

After spending three months in a psychiatric hospital the doctors are determined that Elizabet’s condition is due to the lack of willpower, so she is sent to a secluded seaside house for recovery with Alma to look after her. The two women spend a lot of time alone together and soon form a powerful bond.

Two identical young women who live in different countries, Weronika in Poland and Véronique in France share a special metaphysical bond. They don’t know each other, but their lives are profoundly connected and follow as well an eerily similar course. The girls are like doubles: physically and mentally similar, both blessed with musical talent. And there are many other parallels in their lives as well; they both have the same serious health problem. The collapse of Weronica during a concert in Kraków radically affects Véronique’s life.

The film won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival for Krzysztof Kieslowski, and the Best Actress Award for Irène Jacob. It was also nominated for the Golden Globe.

Séverine is married to a handsome young doctor called Pierre. Her life takes a turn when a client, Marcel, falls in love with her and decides to claim her.
