After her father’s death, Saltanat is forced to sacrifice her virtue in order to pay off the family debt and save her mother from imprisonment. With her devoted admirer and childhood friend at her side, she sets out for the big city where she is to be sold by a kindly uncle to a solvent groom. But a forced moral compromise will not save the situation, and Saltanat and her faithful friend find themselves in ever more desperate situations. An epic story of pure love as the only true value in a world obsessed with wealth and power.

The film was selected in Un Certain Regard section at Cannes Film Festival.
